Fell asleep to this last night. It was one of those transportive moments where I got an idea of what it must have been like to live in the middle of the cold war era. I know there’s always been a sort of tongue and cheek nature to his political/social songs but I heard a sadness in his voice last night. A weariness, as he puts it. Defeated and awaiting the (what must have felt like) inevitable trigger to be pulled to ignite the next world war. A bit haunting. I suggest you listen all the way through to get the full effect.
